Your Q&A's

Funerals & Celebrations of Life

The questions families ask most, answered gently. If yours isn't here, please just call — no question is too small, and there's never any obligation.

We've just lost someone. What do we do first?
Firstly — I'm so very sorry for your loss. There's no rush and nothing you need to have figured out before reaching out. You're welcome to call me before or after you've spoken with a funeral director; I can gently walk you through what happens next and take some of the weight off from the very first conversation.
Do you work alongside funeral directors?
Yes — I work hand-in-hand with your chosen funeral director on timing, venue and all the practical details, so everything flows smoothly and you only need to tell your story once.
What happens when we first meet?
We simply sit down together — at your home or somewhere comfortable — with a cuppa, and you tell me about your person. Their story, their humour, their quirks, the things everyone will smile remembering. There's no form-filling pressure and no time limit. From that conversation, I write a service that truly sounds like them.
Does the service have to be in a church?
Not at all. Services can be held wherever feels right — a church, a graveside, a garden, a beach, a family property, or a favourite lookout over the water. The Whitsundays gives us some of the most beautiful farewell settings imaginable.
We're not religious. Is that okay?
Completely. Every farewell should feel true to the person you loved and the life they lived. Whether your family finds comfort in faith, prefers a non-religious service, or would like a little of both, I'll gently bring together the elements that feel right for you. A favourite hymn or prayer can sit alongside treasured stories, meaningful music, laughter and memories. There are no rules about what a farewell has to look like — together, we'll create something heartfelt, personal and filled with the things that made your person so deeply loved.
Can family and friends speak during the service?
Absolutely. Having family and friends share a few words, a story or a special memory can be one of the most meaningful parts of a farewell. And if someone would love to speak but is worried they might not get through it on the day, that's completely okay. I can read their words for them, stand beside them for support, or simply take over if it all becomes too much. There's never any pressure — we'll just take it as it comes.
Will you help us write the eulogy?
Yes. Whether you'd like me to write it entirely from our conversations, polish something you've drafted, or simply guide you on where to start, eulogy support is part of what I do.
What about music, readings and special touches?
There are so many little ways we can make the service feel like them — their favourite song, a poem they loved, photos that tell their story, grandchildren laying flowers, lighting a candle, or raising a glass in their honour. Often, it's those small and personal moments that families remember most.
Do you offer pet funerals?
I do — because pets really are family. As a dog lover myself, I know just how much they become part of our lives, and how heartbreaking it is when it's time to say goodbye. They deserve to be remembered with the same love they gave us. A pet farewell can be a simple, gentle ceremony at home, in the garden, by the water, or somewhere they loved to be. It can be just you and your pet, or the whole family together — whatever feels right.
Can we hold a memorial later, rather than a funeral now?
Of course. Some families hold a small private farewell first and a larger celebration of life weeks or months later, when everyone can gather. Anniversary remembrances and ash-scattering ceremonies are also beautiful ways to honour someone in your own time.
How much does it cost?
Please reach out and I'll talk you through it openly — no obligation at all. Every service is a little different depending on location and what's involved, and I'll always be upfront with you from the first call.
Where do you travel to?
Airlie Beach, Proserpine and surrounds, and throughout the Whitsundays — and if the right resting place for your person is a little further afield, just ask.

Whenever you're ready, I'm here.
